AMALIA FUENTES AS "MISS NUMBER ONE" Circa 1956

She was called "Miss Number One" when she burst the silver screen in 1956. Together with Mr.Number One, they were introduced in the movie, "Lydia," topbilled by Carmen Rosales and Rogelio de la Rosa. Their screen names were finally revealed in "Rodora" as Amalia Fuentes and Juancho Gutierrez. One of those early gimmicks or 'publicity stunts' being launched by movie studios to pump up interest among fans.

Stunning. I didn't realize she was this beautiful in her youth. I've met her in the 70s and she was a bit older and I didn't even realize how wonderful her beauty is until I saw this photo.

Simon,
My favorite. She was the most beautiful actress of her time. I still remember quite vividly when I first saw her as a very young actress, doing a scene for some movie in front of the Vera-Reyes residence with Romeo Vasquez. Years later, which was very much later, I saw her again (I almost didn't recognize her, she was much older) at the Quad in Makati. Stupid me, I had a camera and exhanging banters with a group of photographers (Camera Club of the Philippines) and I didn't think of asking her for a photograph. Oh well.

Thanks.

James, we have both copies, in English-dubbed version. "Kulay Dugo ang Gabi" was released as "Blood Drinkers" and "Ibulong sa Hangin" as "Blood of the Vampires." see link: http://video48.blogspot.com/2007/10/two-horror-films-from-gerry-de-leon.html

She was dubbed as the asia most beautiful actress and up to now no philippine actress was accorded the title. I am an ardent fan of Miss Fuentes and everytime on the first day showing of her movie, i was there coz she visited the theater. She is really very lovely in person. Unlike Susan Roces who almost wanted to be a politician, I salute to her for intelligence specially what Armida Siquion Reyna is criticizing her. Well your a legend while Armida is just armida. excuse me armida

Amalia Fuentes is truly the most beautiful Filipina movie actress ever! She is also the certified Movie Queen of the 60s. Although she has retired from the movies, her presence in the entertainment industry continues to be felt. She is still a consistent newsmaker.

Yang Armida na yan di na dapat pinagpansin. Inggit lang sya kay Amalia. Mas matalino at maganda si Amalia sa kanya at self made woman. Sya kung di pa sya nakapag asawa ng mayaman, sino ba sya???
