Amado Cortes, probably one of the most underrated actors in Philippine Movies, appeared in countless so-called Pinoy Gangster movies in the 60s. Asiong Salonga (1961), the movie that made Joseph Estrada a big star, started the trend resulting into slew of these genre movies, among them, the true-to-life story of notorious underworld characters like "Kadiong Ngiti" and "Adiong Sikat."

In 1961, Joseph 'Erap' Estrada was tapped to portray the true-to life story of Asiong Salonga, a notorious gang leader from Tondo. The movie was a big blockbuster hit during its theater run and eventually made Estrada an instant star. He zoomed to more greater heights appearing in a long list of so-called Pinoy Gangster movies extending to most part of the 60s portraying infamous and notorious underworld characters.
