==================================================================

Synopsis: Alfred (Christopher de Leon) is in need of capital. His former boss Ricardo (Ruben Rustia) offers him the money in exchange for marrying his only daughter Salve (Sharon Cuneta). He agrees to marry her but later regrets his action. Salve is a sweet girl but lacks sophistication. He wants not a plain housewife but a career-oriented woman who can help him in the business and whom he can proudly show around to his friends.

Alfred meets such a woman in Via (Hilda Koronel), who becomes his business partner. She is rich, beautiful and descended from a well-known political family. The partnership develops into a full-blown affair and they start thinking of how to get rid of Salve.

Via’s cousin, Harry (William Lorenzo), is the accomplice. He is sent to Salve supposedly on an errand from Alfred. Upon entering her house, he starts to rape her.

Alfred returns home and sees the two in bed. He turns her out into the street with the accusation that Harry is her lover. The incident results in the death of Salve’s father. She is left to fend for herself. She ends up a housemaid but her new employer also tries to rape her. With no money or friends, she collapses on the street.

This is where Rod (Bembol Roco) finds her. Because he was once a victim of injustice himself, Rod takes pity on Salve. He is a crime lord involved in big-time smuggling with no qualms about killing anybody. He intends to avenge the misfortune of Salve.

Salve blooms into a beautiful woman. She now exudes the manners of the very rich. One day, as Alfred announces his candidacy in Via’s province, Salve notices that Via’s cousin is Harry. She now has a single-minded ambition: to take her revenge on Alfred and Via. Together with Rod, she plots her moves. Harry is the first to die...

Synopsis: The bar girls working in the nondescript cocktail lounges near the Clark Air Base dream of greener pastures in the States and hope to bag servicemen who would lift them from their misery. There is a violent backside to their aspirations. The girls are sometimes found dead among the tall grasses in empty lots.
Lydia (Hilda Koronel) works as a hospitality girl but is not keen on sharing her life with an American. She has been exposed to the abuses of the American military and is still reeling from the trauma of a friend’s violent death. She is shacking up with Isidro (Phillip Salvador), a hit man who desires to be head honcho of a gun-for-hire syndicate. Isidro allows her to entertain customers but not to have affairs. He supports her and pays for the apartment.
After three years, Lydia is tired of his snarling ambition and wants to leave him. Jocelyn introduces her to George (Leonard Urso). At first, she is rude to him but warms up when she realizes that he could be her passport to the States. Lydia is making up her mind whether to pursue the American dream.
Isidro has recently killed a Filipino base employee who squealed on drug dealings in the base. The murdered man’s nephew tracks him down in his love nest and attempts to kill him. But he proves to be wily. Lydia berates him on the murder of innocent people but he dismisses it, saying his victims deserve their fate.
Isidro’s mother sells PX items while his brother, Boy, scavenges for empty shells inside the American base. One day, he invites his friends to join him. They are spotted by the sentries on duty. One of them is George who is egged on by his companions to open fire. Boy is shot dead. Isidro becomes bewildered and wants revenge. However, his mother wants action from the authorities first. The police tell them that they cannot do much, citing numerous unsolved cases. They are told that the base is the property of the Americans. His friend, Gimo, tells him that should a GI be tagged as a perpetrator of a crime, he is shipped out.
Isidro decides to go at it alone. He asks Gimo, a base worker to help him identify the culprit. Gimo informs him that it would be a difficult task as Americans consider Filipinos as thieves inside the base. However, he will keep his ears open for any incriminating conversation; Isidro would do his best to monitor the clubs.
Inside an Angeles nightclub, George’s two American companions try to recruit him for their marijuana operations. He is not keen on joining. To make sure that he would not reveal their operations, his friends point to Isidro who is sitting opposite them. They would point the finger at him and Isidro would surely come running.
George is drunk and is brought by Lydia to Jocelyn’s pad. Their eyes meet and they make love. George confesses to shooting Boy. The two become a steady couple. Lydia leaves Isidro who becomes jealous. He tries to win her back. He tells her that he was doing all these things for her — and for Boy. Lydia says she has a different dream now and doesn’t want to be part of his plans. He asks her if she ever loved him. She says no.
George refuses to be reassigned. His American companions become nervous. They set him up by planting marijuana in his room. He is caught by the military police. However, he manages to run away. Jocelyn and Lydia hide him in the house of their friends, Juling and Mario. There he has time-out from his pressing circumstances and becomes a fast friend of Juling’s son.
Gomez is ordered to hunt down George. He threatens to kill Lydia — along with Isidro and his mother --- if she does not produce George in twenty-four hours. She runs to Jocelyn whom she finds strangled. She hops into a taxi and makes a maddening dash to Juling’s house. Isidro has been waiting for her outside the nightclub and follows her taxi.
Gomez’s men have located Juling’s house. George spots them and jumps out of the window. There is a chase. Lydia’s taxi appears just in the nickof time and he hops into it. They alight near the nightclub. Gomez’ men follow them. Isidro is not far behind. There is an exchange of bullets. George is wounded but he has shot Gomez. Isidro kills the other men. There is now a confrontation between George and Isidro. Isidro aims his gun. Lydia pleads for his life. Isidro finds that he cannot pull the trigger. George is allowed to go back to the base. He follows the railroad tracks to the base perimeter. He climbs over the fence but he is fired upon by the guards.
Night falls on the bars of Angeles once more. Isidro and Lydia are walking down the street. They are lovers once more.

THE EIGHTIES # 94: HILDA KORONEL (IN THE TITLE ROLE), JOHNNY DELGADO, REZ CORTEZ, RUEL VERNAL, TONIO GUTIERREZ, DAVE BRODETT, WITH CELIA RODRIGUEZ & RAUL ARAGON IN LINO BROCKA'S "ANGELA MARKADO" (1980)

Hilda Koronel as Angela Markado

Synopsis: Angela del Mar (Hilda Koronel) has given up her schooling to earn money as a waitress in order to set up residence near a beach. Her mother, a bedridden laundrywoman who needs sea air to cure her tuberculosis, blames herself for her troubles and feels she could have become an office secretary were it not for her failing health. Angela works in a beerhouse where a gang of rapists-pimps hangs out. They are attracted to her as she is a pretty mestiza, albeit slum-bred. While she tries to discourage their advances, they are too strong for her.

One day, she is abducted on her way home. She is brought to a deserted warehouse where she is repeatedly raped for five days. Despite her pleas, she is brutally violated and sodomized. On the fifth day, the gang decides to tattoo their names on her back. Having no more need for her, the gang decides to sell her to a countryside brothel. However, there is a police raid when she is brought in and Angela is able to escape.

She is picked up by Rona (Celia Rodriguez), a kind-hearted prostitute who nurses her back to health. She goes back to her house and finds her mother has just died. Sally (Mona Pacheco), her friend in the beerhouse, took care of her but as she decided to go back to washing, she collapsed under the strain of work. A few weeks later, Sally becomes a victim of the gang. She obviously could not stand the humiliation and is found with her wrist slashed. Angela decides to seek revenge. . She goes back to Rona who takes her in as a househelp and friend. While she works in the club, Angela borrows her wig and her clothes and goes about hunting her rapists.

First to fall is Melchor (Dave Brodett). She pretends to be one of his girlfriends and is allowed into his apartment. She waits for him in his bed with only the din of a red light on her. She stabs him as he is about to embrace her. At the funeral parlor, Melchor’s brother, Celso (Raul Aragon), vows to find the killer. Melchor has supported him through his law studies which remain unfinished. Celso suspects a woman to be the killer.

The second to be attacked is Oscar (Ruel Vernal). He has just left the club when he vomits in a dark alley. He spots a pretty woman with dark glasses. He is stabbed as he tries to make a pass. He is saved by the headlights of a passing vehicle and is brought to a hospital. Angela looks over the hospital with the aim of finishing Oscar there. However, Celso pays Oscar a visit and spots Angela suspiciously lingering in the corridor. He realizes she is the assassin and runs after her but she has disappeared.

Bren (Tonio Gutierrez) is an easy target. He is stabbed while urinating in the dark. Angela chances upon Delio (Rez Cortez) in Rona’s house. It appears that Rona is his sugar mommy. She does not spare him despite his closeness to her benefactor. She waits for Rona to leave before striking. Delio’s body is found in the bedroom when Rona comes home.

The two other gang members are nervous. They suspect Rona’s helper. But she is not around when they come looking. Near the restaurant, Celso spots her at a distance. He runs after her and rips her dress. He sees the tattoos on her back and understands what she is doing. He tries to dissuade her from carrying out with her revenge. But Oscar and Bobby (Johnny Delgado) finally meet up with Angela. There is a chase in a saw mill. Bobby accidentally shoots Oscar. Angela stabs Bobby before shooting him. Angela gives herself up to Celso who has called the police.
