Recently orphaned, Celing (played by Priscilla Cellona in her first starring role) and her robust and playful kid brother Piding (Ike Jarlego Jr) went to Manila to find work in the home of their late parents' hacienda landlord (Paco Zamora). However they were treated miserably by the landlord's ill-tempered second wife, Doña Esperanza (Naty Bernardo).
Physically abused and beaten, Celing and Piding ran away one night and ended up in an amusement park where they met Victor (Armando Goyena), a ferris wheel operator. Victor took pity on them and brought them home to his mother, Aling Teria (Rosa Aguirre). The old woman welcomed the two with open arms.

Celing, who happened to have a good singing voice, was persuaded by Victor's uncle, Mang Sebio (Gregorio Ticman) to join an amateur radio singing contest. She won and it became the start of a very successful singing career. However, her new good fortune brought her no joy because Victor pretended not to care about her at all. Celing was secretly in love with Victor and the young man addressed her as "kid." On the other hand, Victor and Piding became fast friends.

Meanwhile, the scheming Doña Esperanza decided she must take Celing back after reading about her success in the newspaper. She talked to Victor about her decision and even threatened to take the matter to the court. Feeling that it could be for the good of Celing and Piding, Victor had a heart-to-heart talk with Celing and advised her to go back to Doña Esperanza. Celing agreed to return, more so she felt she was nothing at all to Victor. When Piding learned about it, he became hysterical and ran away… only to meet a fatal accident. The concluding parts can be viewed in two parts on the two clips below---

THE FIFTIES # 301: DAVID BRIAN, MARSHA HUNT, HUGH CORCORAN AND IKE JARLEGO, JR. IN "NO PLACE TO HIDE" (1955)/ Re-posted

"No Place To Hide" (1955)
LVN Pictures & Lebran-Movietec
Release Date July 28- August 7, 1955/ Lyric and Life
Original Screenplay Norman Corwin
Music Hershel Gilbert
Direction Josef Shaftel
Cast David Briam, Marsha Hunt, Hugh Corcoran, Ike Jarlego, Jr. and Candy( the wonder dog)/ Guest star: Celia Flor/ with Manuel Silos, Eddie Infante, Alfonso Carvajal, Oscar Keese, Pianing Vidal, Jose de Cordova, Vicenta Advincula, Jose Avellana and Lou Salvador

Did you know that Marsha Hunt, a popular American film, theater, and television actress who was blacklisted by Hollywood movie studio executives in the 1950s, appeared in a Filipino-American movie titled, No Place to Hide? Director Josef Shafter & Co. collaborated with LVN Pictures and Lebran-Movietec to come up with a beautiful movie shot entirely in the Philippines. Filipino child star Ike Jarlego, Jr. had a memorable major role in the movie as one of the two boys on the run carrying a deadly gelatine-coated capsules, mistaking them for marbles. These capsules when released would wipe out a whole city.

Controversial Hollywood star Marsha Hunt graced the cover of Literary Song-Movie Magazine in 1955

During the late 1930s and into the 1940s, Marsha Hunt (b.1917) signed a number of petitions promoting liberal ideals. She was also a member of the Committee for the First Amendment. Because of this association her name appeared in the pamphlet Red Channels. And although she and her husband, Robert Presnell, were never called before the House Un-American Activities Commission (HUAC), like Charlie Chaplin, their names were put on the blacklist, and they found it extremely difficult to find work. On October 27, 1947, she flew with a group of about 30 actors, directors, writers, and filmmakers (including John Huston, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and Danny Kaye), to Washington D.C. to protest the actions of Congress. When she returned to Hollywood three days later, things had changed. She was asked to denounce her activities if she wanted to find more work, but she refused. For her, the issue here was not Communism, but freedom of speech, privacy of opinion, freedom of advocacy, and freedom of democracy. She did keep working until the publication of Red Channels, but afterwards it became very hard.

She had worked steadily from 1935 until 1949, appearing in fifty-two films. After being blacklisted, she appeared in only three films in the next eight years. In 1957 she started getting more work, appearing in six films the next three years, at which time she semi-retired in 1960. Since then she has appeared only in small roles in five films and numerous television shows, including an episode of the ABC medical drama Breaking Point.

Synopsis: The unit headed by Pepe Celi (Fred Montilla), in possession of two steel trunks of gold bullions, is wiped out by a Japanese patrol, and Celis himself, badly wounded, is left for dead.

Liberation time finds Pepe facing a court martial for betraying his unit to the enemy and is condemned to imprisonment by the false accusation of a scheming co-officer, Marasigan.

As a prison trustee assigned to the hospital, Celis meets a Japanese patient who reveals to him that his son caught in the raid with him, did not die but left in the care of nuns in a convent in S. Demetrio. Celis could identify the child by a locket around his neck, containing a map where the bullions are hidden.
Breaking jail, Celis is beset by the agents of the law, headed by Lladoc and Marasigan‘s henchmen who are afraid to be exposed. In his attempt to reach S. Demetrio, Celis is wounded in some encounters and is treated by a nurse (Nena Cardenas) who falls in love with him. At S. Demetrio, the nuns reveal that his son died, and they turn over to him the locket containing the map.

Meanwhile, in his search for clues leading to the whereabouts of the escaped Celis, Lladoc stumbles into other clues revealing how Celis was double-crossed by Marasigan. By playing Marasigan against his henchman, Caro, the latter begins to fear for his safety and squeals on Marasigan, clearing out Celis.

Lladoc then trails Marasigan, but the latter has already cornered Celis who has been forced to reveal where the treasure is hidden, by holding as hostage Celis’ boy companion (Ike Jarlego, Jr.). Lladoc, together with the nurse who is also in search of her fugitive lover, arrives on the spot where the treasure is hidden to find Pepe and Marasigan engaged in a mortal combat with Marasigan having the upper hand. Marasigan is shot, his henchmen captured.

Celis is cleared and happily reunited with the nurse, and the young boy who has been his faithful aide and companion during his many trials.
