RIP, ROBERT AREVALO, 85/ SELECTED FILMOGRAPHY

VETERAN actor Robert Arevalo has passed away, his family announced. He was 85 years old.

His daughter, Anna Ylagan, shared the news on Facebook on Thursday where she wrote, "Today is the day that the Lord has chosen to take our dearest Papa home."

"Robert Francisco Ylagan, a.k.a. Robert Arevalo, peacefully passed away today at 10:17am, August 10, 2023 due to complications from Parkinsonism. Praise God for His mercy and grace. We are grateful that He has given us the best Papa one can ever wish for.

"Thank you for loving us the way you did, Pa. Although our hearts are broken, we are comforted by God's promise that He has a place reserved for you in His kingdom in Heaven where all of us who believe in His son, Jesus, will one day reunite."

Arevalo, who started acting in the 1950s, is survived by his wife Barbara Perez and their daughters Anna and Gina, along with their families.

Besides his acting career, Arevalo also worked in advertising and was part of the Ylagan family known for their artistic talents.

His wake will be at Arlington Chapels in Quezon City on Saturday and Sunday.

Born in Dumaguete on May 6, 1938, Arevalo's contributions to the industry spanned 60 years. He first entered acting as a drama actor for Premiere Productions. His first major screen debut was for his uncle, national artist and award-winning movie director Gerardo de Leon's "Huwag Mo Akong Limutin" (1960).

Also with de Leon, Arevalo secured the FAMAS awards for best actor in "Ang Daigdig ng mga Api" (1965). In 1990, he clinched the title of best supporting actor in the Metro Manila Film Festival for Lino Brocka's "Ama, Bakit Mo Ako Pinabayaan?." Arevalo was also honored with the Film Academy of the Philippines' award for best supporting actor for Joel Lamangan's "Pangako ng Kahapon" (1994). Additionally, he received the Gawad Urian trophy for best screenplay in "Hubad na Bayani" (1977), a movie he both directed and starred in.

Aside from acting, Arevalo also served as the anchor of ABS-CBN's news bulletin Balita Ngayon along with Mel Tiangco after the station resumed broadcasting following the People Power Revolution in 1986 until the program was replaced by TV Patrol in 1987.

His last TV credit was for "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" in 2018 where he played the role of Efren.  (by Iza Iglesias/ Manila Times)
