MACAPAGAL-ROXAS: THE 1965 POLITICAL CAMPAIGN POSTER
In the 1965 presidential election, then incumbent President Diosdado Macapagal (father of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) and then Senator Gerardo Roxas (father of Senator Mar Roxas) were in tandem running for President and Vice President respectively.
Macapagal brought the Philippines SECOND to Japan's economic growth during his term.
But, for some perplexing reason, the Filipinos were quirky enough (the best word I can use to avoid mentioning the W word for: WISHY-WASHY), that they exchanged Diosdado with Ferdy whose capability was untested and whose reputation was rather streaked with some notoriety due to the Nalundasan case.
What a big mistake!
Then, years later, some Filipinos thpught that Gloria might be exactly like her late father and put her to power!

Now, it's time to choose again someone to lead the nation. Let's open our eyes. Any presidential candidates be tinged with some corruption – you better NIP THEM IN THE BUD! Or you will be doing another...
I'm sure there will be one who'd be as honest as Diosdado Macapagal. Magsaysay was honest, but he only sat as president for 2 years.
Personally, I would tend to stay away from candidates who would use some religious groups to gain more votes. If the candidate paid a big sum to the leaders of these groups, then we know how disastrous it can be for the nation.
I remember the Marcos campaign. It was I think, Marcos late Upsilonian brod, Rafael Salas, who handled it. It was a brilliant one. He wrote individual letters to all students of the ATELIER, explaining why he was the best candidate for the nation. I presume those letters were sent to all the universities & colleges across the nation.The buzzword then was : ALIS DIYAN! referring of course to Macapagal. Marcos handlers likened them to the young Kennedy and Camelot. Marcos won.
In this day and place, the campaigning right now sounded like the 1965 campaign, except with a lot more candidates than ever before. Marcos and Duterte are being sainted as part of a backlash against the Aquino administration, whom the toxic commenters have seen as weak and ineffective; this backlash is extended further to the Liberal Party, especially Mar Roxas.
I'll want a moderate candidate -- I find loose cannons rather unnerving in their potential to make or break this country with huge consequences.
