Lou Salvador Jr., known as The James Dean of the Philippines, died of lung cancer at the age of 66 (born on Dec. 4, 1941) at 9:40 last Saturday morning, April 19, in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he had been staying for more than 25 years after he retired from showbiz.
He is survived by his second wife Carol and his children (including twins) with his ex-wife Guinevieve Poe, younger sister of FPJ. Nicknamed Jojo, Lou Jr. was one of the estimated 40 children of the original master showman Lou Salvador Sr. a.k.a. Van Ludor. Jojo was the eldest among three siblings by the same mother: Ding and Rosauro (Ross Rival, father of Maja Salvado), both deceased, and former actress Chona Sandoval (Consuelo Salvador). Jojo was the original Bad Boy (title of one of his starrers) of Philippine movies. He was among the contract stars of LVN Pictures which built him up as The James Dean of Philippines.
I talked to Jojo last week on the phone and he told me he was dying,’ said Ramon Salvador, brother of Phillip Salvador. He said that his kidney had collapsed. My parting words to him were, “We will pray for you.”
Jojo was diagnosed to have lung cancer last year. His remains have been cremated.

I met him for the second time(last)in the summer of 2005 in Las Vegas,Nevada where he served our dinner at the dining area in The Imperial Palace Casino( he works as a head waiter). He is a long time friend of my sister in law who is a regular customer of the place, and our dinner host that time. She introduced him to me. I told him "oh I know you very well including all your relatives in the Philippine movie world." and upon knowing that I am from Manila, Philippines, he whispered into my ears to be quite , and not to be talking about him that he was a well known former actor during his time. I mentioned to him that I was then also a fan of her very lovely sister, Alona Alegre, who i don't know now where she is. He was surprisingly amused, then while preparing our table settings jokingly told us, " In the -Philippines,many of my fans solicit for my signature(autograph), but here in the casino, is the reverse ; I am the one who solicit for my customers signatures ( for the credit card billings). He still exudes some of his heyday looks, nevertheless with that some normal aging lines in his face. He then informed my in law ( a real estate agent herself), that he is "masuwerte" now that he finally got to buy a house in a certain West side area in Las Vegas. He stayed near our table all throughout during our dinner time, and of course up to getting that "signature" from our host , plus that important always ready substantial Tip from her.

I worked with Mang Luis in the late 90s at Imperial Palace. He once told me why he left showbiz in the Philippines. He left because he left his first wife FPJ's young sister and afraid of FPJ. I told him once that he could come back and be a bad guy in the movies. But he said maybe when FPJ dies or something like that. I'm sad to find out that he died of lung cancer. Especially that we used to smoke cigarettes in the back of the restaurant were we worked in Imerial Palace Casino in Las Vegas. I remembered he used bum off cigarettes from me. And wondering that here in America, movie stars from the Philippines are just ordinary people. Anonymous
