Hi Simon...good day to you...i am an avid reader of your blogspot eversince na nakita ko ito sa net. i'm also an avid fan of local movies....

may ilang questions lang ako regarding your latest posting..the 8th manila film festival...as far as i remembered kase..the movie Dyesebel at ang Mahiwagang Kabibe was second top grosser, 3rd was Nueva Vizcaya.. it was announced during the awarding ceremonies after the 10 day festival.....i still vividly recall na si Ms. Rita Gomez pa ang nag announced... and it was also clearly stated pa na during the first day, Dyesebel was the #1 at the box office... Yung movie nina FPJ and Joseph ay nag over take after 4 days of showing hanggang sa end na ng festival yun.

Nueva Vizcaya romped off most of the awards including the coveted Rajah Soliman dor Best Picture, Best Director for Pablo Santiago and Best Actor for Vic Vargas.... Amalia Fuentes was adjudged Best Actress For Buhay Mo...Buhay Ko.... Lorli Villanueva was best supporting actress as the mistress of alfires in Lupang...

For some critics opinions during that year, technically and cinematically dapat ang Lupang Hinirang ang nanalong Best Picture..marami din ang humulang si Orlando Nadres ang magiging best director..but luck went to epic saga Nueva Vizcaya... okay din naman ang Nueva..kase parang ang dating nito noon ay isang spectacular film na katuald ng mga napipili sa Oscars.

Lupang Hinirang was named best Dramatic Film, Nueva was best action movie, best musical went to either Dyesebel or Mahiwagang Daigdig ni Pedro Penduko..sensy na hindi ko maalala....

one more trivia...supposedly dapat may entry sina Nora and tirso that year.."Maala-ala Mo Kaya" ang title ng film pero ang balita nasa post production stage pa lang ito at hindi umabot sa mismong festival..kaya yung mga nabunot na theaters ng Sampaguita VP Pictures ay ibinigay sa Lea Prod...ang producer ng Lupang Hinirang.... a month after ng festival pinalabas ang movie ni na Nora and Tirso.. naging box office hit din ito....

Pasensya na sa mahaba kong sulat and thanks for your very informative and wonderful blog...

God Bless,

Noli Berioso

As far as the Top grosser ranking was concerned, the figures were all taken from National Cinema Association of the Philippines. I've seen the movie in 1973 and I'm very sure it was one of the top grossing films of the festival.
