Did you know that…
Benigno ‘Ninoy’ Aquino [ Philippine opposition leader during the Marcos era, senator and national hero] was only 17 when he joined the country’s biggest newspaper, The Manila Times. When The Times was casting about for someone to cover what was happening to the Philippine contingent in the Korean War, Ninoy jumped at the chance. He cajoled the newspaper’s Brooklyn-born editor, Dave Boguslav, and its publisher, Joaquin ‘Chino’ Roces to send him to Korea. But he was only 17! What could a ‘boy correspondent’ do? “What will your mother say?”, Chino exclaimed. When the two hesitated, Ninoy simply hitched a ride on a military plane and was in Korea sending dispatches before his two bosses realized that he had jumped the gun on them. The Times’ editors, Boguslav and Joe Bautista, soon came to appreciate that gung ho quality which was to rocket Aquino to fame.

It was nominated for that year’s FAMAS Best Picture and Best Screenplay (for Ninoy). It won two FAMAS major awards: Best supporting actor for Gil de Leon and Best supporting actress for Nida Blanca who was only 16 years old then and just barely one year in LVN. She portrayed the role of a young Korean war waif.

Release Date September 18, 1951/ Life

Recently orphaned, Celing (played by Priscilla Cellona in her first starring role) and her robust and playful kid brother Piding (Ike Jarlego Jr) went to Manila to find work in the home of their late parents' hacienda landlord (Paco Zamora). However they were treated miserably by the landlord's ill-tempered second wife, DoƱa Esperanza (Naty Bernardo).
Physically abused and beaten, Celing and Piding ran away one night and ended up in an amusement park where they met Victor (Armando Goyena), a ferris wheel operator. Victor took pity on them and brought them home to his mother, Aling Teria (Rosa Aguirre). The old woman welcomed the two with open arms.

Celing, who happened to have a good singing voice, was persuaded by Victor's uncle, Mang Sebio (Gregorio Ticman) to join an amateur radio singing contest. She won and it became the start of a very successful singing career. However, her new good fortune brought her no joy because Victor pretended not to care about her at all. Celing was secretly in love with Victor and the young man addressed her as "kid." On the other hand, Victor and Piding became fast friends.

Meanwhile, the scheming DoƱa Esperanza decided she must take Celing back after reading about her success in the newspaper. She talked to Victor about her decision and even threatened to take the matter to the court. Feeling that it could be for the good of Celing and Piding, Victor had a heart-to-heart talk with Celing and advised her to go back to DoƱa Esperanza. Celing agreed to return, more so she felt she was nothing at all to Victor. When Piding learned about it, he became hysterical and ran away… only to meet a fatal accident. The concluding parts can be viewed in two parts on the two clips below---

It was Cristina (Delia Razon), a pretty barrio lass, whom Satur wanted for his wife, but the young woman was already committed to Sendong (Jaime dela Rosa), a farmer. When Cristina’s mother fell ill and no cure can be found, Cristina went to Satur for help. A written contract or pact was signed and consummated between Satur and the family, wherein Cristina will be forever indebted to Satur. The mother got well. Later, Satur left town and entrusted all his wealth--- the mansion and everything to Cristina and her family. When the family learned that Satur died, they thought that the deal they entered to was already void with his death. Cristina went to Sendong to tell the good news. But Satur was not any ordinary human being; he was the devil incarnate disguising as a man. A deal is a deal--- and Satur insisted that Cristina was his forever. When the contract was not met, a curse was hurled on Cristina turning her into an old woman. Sendong will try anything to save Cristina, even at the expense of his life. The duel to the end with Satur was his only chance. An incredible and impossible task to do! Can he make it?
