Pinoy viewers were introduced to James Bond in 1962 in the movie "Dr. No." But did you know that 7 years earlier, in 1955, Premiere Productions produced a similar type of movie---ala-James Bond? The film was Adventures of DI-13, with Jose Romulo playing the intrepid Filipino sleuth. The blurb says "You'll be gasping for breath as you follow the dangerous, romantic, hilarious adventures of DI-13" --- a typical James Bond formula---

THE WAR YEARS (1942- 1945): "THE GOLDEN AGE OF PHILIPPINE THEATER"/ MAY 1943

“Movie theaters served not only as venues for stage shows but also as covert centers of resistance. Rafael Roces, Jr., manager of the prestigious Cine Ideal, home of MGM pictures, used his theater to store weapons and communication radios as well as to host secret meetings of resistance fighters. Emerito Ramos used his office in Life Theater to hire the unemployed journalists and staff members of the newspapers El Debate, Mabuhay and Herald, all owned by J. Amado Araneta. Naturally, the office became the communication center of guerillas and underground fighters."

"Movie flyers have been used by theater owners as promotional ads to drum up business for movies. They would print them up from materials provided by the studio, adding information on local screening times and locations. Although they were cheaply produced, many of the flyers were quite nicely designed and are now considered highly collectibles. In many cases the original films have been lost, making the surviving flyers the only visual record of numerous movies."
