July 16, 1966: An exhibition basketball match (for the benefit of the family of the late comedian Vicente Liwanag) between the Philippine Movies All-Star Selection, composed of top actors in Philippine cinema (in alphabetical order- Jun Aristorenas, Victor Bravo, Chiquito, Paquito Diaz, Romy Diaz, Joseph Estrada, Tony Ferrer, Eddie Gutierrez, Jess Lapid, Fernando Poe, Jr., Andy Poe, Lou Salvador, Jr., Bob Soler, Willie Sotelo, Romeo Vasquez and Zaldy Zshornack) and the Clark Air Base Squadron.

MIKE DE LEON'S "HINDI NAHAHATI ANG LANGIT" PREMIERE NIGHT/ TRINOMA/ NOV. 11, 2014

The digitally restored and re-mastered classic, Mike de Leon's "Hindi Nahahati ang Langit" was screened last night (November 11, 2014) at Trinoma Cinema 1. The movie, shown in 1985, 29 years ago, starred Christopher de Leon, Lorna Tolentino, Dina Bonnevie, Edu Manzano, Nestor de Villa and Gloria Romero. Among the lead stars, only Ms. Bonnevie attended the event.

RARE VINTAGE PRE-WAR MOVIE ADS ON EXHIBIT AT CCP (JULY 20- AUGUST 15, 2012)

Titled "Alitaptap Kikilap Kilap,"an exhibit showcasing rare movie ads during the pre-war era, from 1936 to 1941. Film historians call it the first Golden Age of Philippine cinema. Six glorious years of filmmaking which saw the emergence of great stars, directors, producers, writers, composers and other cinema artists and craftsmen. The exhibit, from the collection of Danny Dolor, runs from July 20 to 29 and extended to August 15 (2012).

VITUG 'SHOOTS' LEE

I like taking candid shots.

He writes, he shoots. Ricky Lee and Romy Vitug in a series of amusing photos. Here, multi-awarded cinematographer Romeo ‘Romy’ Vitug taking snapshots of Ricardo 'Ricky' Lee during the latter’s book launch last May 31. Both subjects are
icons and "hall-of-famers" in their respective fields.

Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Lee, one of the Philippines’ premier scriptwriters, has written more than 130 produced film scripts since 1979, earning for him more than 50 trophies from award-giving bodies. He also won several awards in fiction (Phil. Free Press, Palanca, National Book Award, etc); a Gawad-Balagtas Awardee 2000 from UMPIL and 100 Centennial Awardees of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Romeo ‘Romy’ Vitug is one of the country’s prized and multi-awarded cinematographers. He has won numerous awards from various award-giving bodies--- Gawad URIAN (6 times); FAMAS (4 times); FAP (8 times); Metro Manila Film Festival (5 times); Stars Awards (3 times) and a recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award from Cinemanila International Film Festival.

RICKY LEE'S BOOK LAUNCHING AND SIGNING



Si Tatang At Mga Himala ng Ating Panahon, Ricky Lee’s ground breaking collection of reportage, short fiction and screenplay, reissued as a special collector’s edition had a successful book launch last Sunday, 3 pm, May 31 (2009) at Powerbooks, SM Megamall. It was a star-studded event attended by celebrities, friends, fans, the Noranians, supporters and even ordinary people. They came in droves to witness the memorable affair.

Well-known and popular personalities like Angel Locsin, Dingdong Dantes, Phillip Salvador, Ogie Alcasid, Alan Paule, Jaclyn Jose, Jean Garcia, Vangie Labalan, Fernando Josef, Robi Domingo, Danton Remoto, Chanda Romero and Ricky Davao (who also stood as host) read excerpts from the writer’s book. National Artist for Literature, Bienvenido Lumbera addressed the opening remarks.

Book signing followed after the program.
