MORE ON PRE-WAR TAGALOG MOVIES: ROSARIO MORENO, ERNESTO LA GUARDIA, WITH NATY RUBI, PEDRO FAUSTINO, MANUEL BARBEYTO, FRANCO GARCIA, GUILLERMO E. CARLS, JOAQUIN GAVINO, MERCEDES DE GAVINO IN "MAHAL PA RIN KITA" (1940)/ UPDATED

This thing called love, outside of its being sweet, can be anything from funny to a pain in the neck. You may not believe it, but surely you will when you see "Mahal Pa Rin Kita," Excelsior's latest vehicle which opens at the Grand theatre today.

Two prominent flicker figures, Rosario Moreno and Ernesto La Guardia, join hearts for the first time in this vastly entertaining romantic photoplay, supported by a notable cast of seasoned players — Nati Rubi, Pedro Faustino, Manuel Barbeyto, Franco Garcia, Guillermo E. Carls, Joaquin Gavino, Mercedes de Gavino, Consuelo Menendes and Digna Amor.

The story has it that lovebirds Moreno and La Guardia have been romantically inclined since childhood and are both a-dither about settling down and building up a home. But villain Barbeyto, well-off and well-groomed, butts in, and "poor boy" La Guardia — he gets to thinking that a rich lover is what his rich girl friend wants for a better half. La Guardia gets sore and jealous. He also gets cold feet and drifts apart. So girl loses boy and vice-versa. You can't put a good love down, as much as a good man, which about sums up the perfectly intriguing climax. It's ten to one; you'll thrill to it and to the picture in general. And don't you be surprise should you wish to see another Moreno-La Guardia vehicle pretty soon.

Rosario Moreno gets away with another glorious acting triumph, and Ernesto La Guardia, not to
b« outdone, makes a clean job of personifying the lover-come back here.. fhe story was written by Agustin V. Reyes. Settings went all the way from the studio to far-off Canlubang, Laguna where beautiful hacienda cites were taken to serve as a fitting provincial background. Musical interludes were by Constancio de Guzman. Jesus Carreon, until previously assistant to Director Octavio Silos turns full-fledged director with "Mahal Pa Rin Kita," and justifies creditably his well-deserved promotion. Director Silos gave a good hand by aiding and supervising in the complicated routine of motion picture direction.
