Produced by Parlatone Hispano- Filipino, Inc., the movie, "Ruben," was written and directed by Mar I. Esmeralda and starred Angel Esmeralda, Purita Sta. Maria, Gerardo de Leon. Armando Crisostomo

It was released and shown at Grand Theater, February 1, 1938.

Synopsis:

Ruben, a boy with dreams of becoming a surgeon, is supported by his adopted father Don Ernesto, who sends him to Vienna for studies. After 14 years abroad, Ruben returns to Manila but is robbed of his identity and fortune by a thief posing as him. Branded as the criminal, Ruben hides his true identity and works as chauffeur for Don Sofronio, father of Marina, the woman he loves. When Don Ernesto returns, Ruben is asked to impersonate himself so as not to disappoint his father. At a grand ball, Ruben proves his identity through his fencing skill and tango dancing—talents known from his European years. The impostor is caught, Ruben is vindicated, and he and Marina are united in happiness.
