hi Simon,
ReplyDeleteIn my personal opinion, Krimen: Kayo ang Humatol was the best film in the history of manila Film festival...iba pa rin kase ang panglasa ng mga hurado nun.. dapat ibinigay dito ang rajah solayman award for best film. Well polished ang movie..kudos to Jun Raquiza na nag aral pa ng film making sa US that time bago umuwi dito sa Pinas.... nkakapanghinayang na masyadong short ang directorial stint nya sa local movie world... kung nagpatuloy sya malamang ay kahilera nya sina Lino Brocka, Mike de leon, Ishmael Bernal..very hollywoodish ang style nya..kaya that time hindi masyadong maka relate ang masa...
His directorial debut film, "Dalawang Mukha ng Tagumpay "won for him a best director at FAMAS in 1973, the film starred superstar Nora Aunor and Raquiza himself..(Leo Angelo ang screen name nya). after krimen alam ko may ginawa pa syang isang movie (his last bago sya nawala sa limelight) with Lotis key yata ito entitled "katawang Lupa" a suspense thriller ..though not sure on this, pero parang sya ang director nun.
Dolphy's winning the best actor plum for John en marsha was a welcome alternative...usually kase kung hindi dramatic, action actor ang nanalo ng award...very convincing at hilarious sya as John Purontong..same thing can be said to Gina pareno na ang galing-galing sa krimen kayo ang Humatol..nakak panghinayang nga at wala pang manunuri circle nun , for sure pipiliin nila ang Krimen..as the best film of the year...

Good to know Noli, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us .
This was one of the festival's top moneymakers and starred Movie Queen Amalia Fuentes and Vic Vargas.
