She is called by many names --- Swanie, Susie, Tita Susan, The Face that Refreshes, Queen of Philippine Movies, Queen of all Movie Queens and so on, but to the King, her Queen is simply INDAY.
Susan Roces, Jesusa Sonora in real life, was discovered in the mid 50s while watching her favorite star, Gloria Romero inside the Sampaguita compound. Her first starring role, Boksingera, Daw (1956) was a success. From a simple movie fan, she went on to do movies opposites Juancho Gutierrez, Jose Mari, Romeo Vasquez and Eddie Gutierrez. She went freelance in 1964. Her first movie outside her home studio was Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw, with Fernanado Poe, Jr. They made 17 movies together. Susan and FPJ got married in December 1968.
Her acting talent was recognized twice by FAMAS when she was declared Best Actress in 1977 for the movie Maligno and in 1978 for Lino Brocka’s Gumising Ka Maruja.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Simon, for this! More! More! More! (Di ba, Master Bing?)
Really beautiful. Bagay na bagay sila ng idol kong si FPJ.
ReplyDeleteSAAN BA NABIBILI MGA MOVIE NA ITO
ReplyDeleteSusan is someone who should be emulated by our younger stars today. Reel and Real life, she is worthy of being called the Everlasting Queen of Philippine Movies. She is not only beautiful but a good wife to FPJ, talented, credible, honest, a good friend, She is not a fake, not a cheater, not a liar. She should have been a good First Lady beside the Real President. Mabuhay ka Inday!
