MY BOOK ON "DA KING"

One of my prized collections is my book on FPJ, a 200 + pages hardbound, which I titled it as A COMPREHENSIVE LOOK: FPJ MOVIE ADS (1955-2003). I only made two copies, one which I gave to FPJ personally during the 2004 Presidential Election. The book, which he signed, is fully illustrated with movie ads, articles, photos, which I painstakingly compiled since the 60s. It is divided into 6 chapters --- the 50s, the 60s, the 70s, the 80s, the 90s and 2000s chronicling almost five decades of FPJ's colorful movie career, from 'Anak ni Palaris' in 1955 to 'Pakners' in 2003.

Eight years later, in 2012, I was able to have the book also signed by the Queen herself, Ms. Susan Roces. That made the book priceless with both the signatures of the King and Queen of Philippine Movies on it.

FPJ signing and browsing the book. He mentioned some movies and made comments as he scanned through the pages of the book. The movie, 'Dakilang 9' he said, released in the 60s was produced because of the success of a western film, 'Magnificent 7' starring Steve McQueen. He also cited a film, 'Los Lacuacheros' made in the 50s, saying with a smile, "wala kaming ginawa dyan sa pelikula na yan kung hindi maglakad ng maglakad lang hanggang sa huli."

The meeting took place February 9, 2004 at the FPJ studios at Del Monte, QC. Since it was the start of the presidential campaign, I have to squeeze myself into a large phalanx of people who were swarming the actor, trying to meet and shake his hand. A rally just took place at the vacant lot of the compound attended by some of his ticket mates. I was fortunate and lucky enough to at least get pass his tight security and had a few minutes from him. With me at that time was Nino Muhlach and his supporters from a group called Batang Panday, a youth group supporting the candidacy of the actor.
