MORE ON PRE-WAR TAGALOG MOVIES: ROSITA RIVERA, ROGELIO DE LA ROSA, WITH ARMANDO CRIS, GREGORIO TICMAN, FLEUR DE LIZ, MONENG ILAGAN, GERARDO DE LEON, DIGNA MERCEDES, TITO AREVALO, PURITA DE LA ROSA, ANTONIA SANTOS, ANA SERRANO IN "MAKILING" (1938)

Picturesque Mt. Makiling, long celebrated in song and legend, provides the vibrant backdrop for Remigio Mat. Castro’s "Makiling," presented for the first time by Parlatone Hispano-Filipino, Inc.

The movie introduces a new screen duo—Rogelio de la Rosa and Rosita Rivera—recently signed by the film outfit. Their moving performances, supported by a strong cast and a compelling storyline, position "Makiling" as a milestone in Philippine cinema.

Castro’s narrative draws from the timeless tale of Mariang Makiling, unfolding with quiet poignancy the struggle of a woman against a world where she does not belong—a theme yet to be explored in local films.
