Some picture titles are a genuine help to those who like to know what they are going to see, while others seem to have been applied as a sort of guessing contest.
"Lihim na Pagsinta," the first of a series of very entertaining Valdes pictures which opens at the Grand on January 25, falls instantly into the first of these classifications.
There is typical dialogue, candid country scenes and a plot that certainly makes it a trifle hard for you to decide whether to call this a comedy or a drama. Here is that already popular love team that scored heavily in "Ako'y Maghihintay" — hitting a new high in "Lihim na Pagsinta." Handsome Jose Padilla, Jr. as a ferry man and coy Maria Miranda as a country lass — two neighbors secretly in love with each other. But for reasons better known to our shy boatman, no avowal of his tender feelings would not come out. But with a couple of slapstick comedians in the persons of"Pugo and Togo" whose lusty illogical funny antics earned for them the title of the screen's pair of gentlemaniacs.
But things get pretty confusing specially for our boat man when his neighbor took fancy on Rogelio (Jesus Estrella) whom she met at a dance during their town fiesta. And can there be any thing more interesting in its provincial way than our country lad side by side with a city slicker before a fickle lass who simply could not make up her mind?
But that is not all that there is in this story which otherwise could have been the story of two lonely hearts each groping its way in the dark, finding each other at last and living "happily ever after" in the finale. For there is the third party that makes the "crowd." And from there begins the suspense that beautifully winds up to the climax that proves the real surprise of this picture.
Naturally you will like to find yourself how so intriguing a question finally resolves itself to a happy ending. But we will advise you to try to see the picture from the beginning, in order to prepare yourself for that well-timed climax. It will, therefore, be advisable for you to come exactly at the beginning of the screening hour at the Grand beginning January 25, 1939.
