THEATERS IN METRO MANILA Circa LATE 60s and 70s

Progress shifted to Cubao and Makati in the late 60s. The first First-run theater in Quezon City was inaugurated in 1968 with the opening of New Frontier within the Cubao area. This was followed months later of Nation Cinerama, which introduced the so-called revolutionary ultra-cinerama single-lens process. The theater’s inaugural offering was the epic movie, “Custer of the West.” The 70s saw the opening of more theaters --- Quezon, Diamond, Remar, Coronet, Sampaguita, Ali, Grand, Maya, Cubao Cinema, Delta and Circle.

In Manila, several movie houses closed shops, some renovated and later reopened under new names--- Lider, Dynasty, Regency, Crown, Recto, Lord, Jennet, among others.

Another detailed map of the movie theaters, this time within the Cubao area and suburbs, courtesy of our good friend Rod Samonte

This was once a first-run theater. Being used as front for prostitution, it was raided recently./ Avenida Rizal 2008

He-he-he!)

I am not too sure, but there was a very good theater/cinema owned by the Roman family, I think, in the corner of Recto and Quezon Ave (right above the Quiapo underpass). I am sure you know it, it was, to me at least, the best moviehouse of that time, even better than Nation in Cubao.

There was also one, or maybe two(?) moviehouse(s) on the Recto u-belt area. I remember one across the Cartimar(?) shopping center, before one reaches Morayta if you're coming from Avenida. Another pala is yung Gotesco(?) theater, tumbok na tumbok from Morayta going to Recto.

Could not remember the names, but I am sure you would. Thanks

Can you post some movie ads of James Bond movies and the theaters that showed those movies? I'm a James Bond fan and I would like to see where those films were shown in Manila. Thanks.

By the way, I forgot to mention that Alta Cinema was recently closed down after it became a haven for prostitution.

theatres across cartimar are maxim and miramar, the one beside it are eastern and tandem. the one in front of gotesco theatre is manila cinema. u also forgot to mention illusion theatre, it was located right across SM carriedo, the entrance facing r. hidalgo st., de luxe and republic which later became march theatre (sister theatre of mercury which later became baron theatre situated on trabajo market) at p. florentino st. near arranque market. in paco area, there's bellevue, major and paco theatres. mila theatre in a. bonifacio, venus which became cinex in tondo, filipinas in malabon.

Wow, this brings back memories! I remember when I was a kid, Nation and New Frontier were the best! Also, I was fond of the theaters logo back then..thank you thank you. Missing here is the logo of Avenue Theater..it's the first time I went to a movie house, it was Fly Fly Away starring Dolphy, don't know what year was that.

The picture above that says "become haven for prostitution that raided" is the Jennet/Lords Theater. Lords is the only remaining operational stand-alone theater in Avenida.

@Ren The former Grand Theater (now Metro Manila Bible Community) is located at 670 EDSA, Cubao. It is the first building north of the vacant lot at the corner of EDSA Aurora. Right side going Monunmento before Superlines na may mga billboards sa gilid at itaas.

As of today, 01/21/2025, sarado na ang Alta, last year p nagsara. Remar is now DiviMart.
