ReplyDeleteSimon:
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why when I post a message, sometimes it erases it. Silly me.
Anyway, I really didn't go to see Nora-Tirso films in the 70s and now, watching this clip makes me wonder why millions of fans of the duo spent so much of their hard-earned money just to watch their sing and dance routines.
Tirso, now it can be told, could not dance then, in fact, he looked so painfully awful. His arms and leg moves were so stiff, he really looked as if he had some gout attack or something. Nora's voice is very good, but Tirso's singing is just so-so and therefore, there was no blending whatsoever. I'd say Manny de Leon could sing better than Tirso. Not that Manny was a great singer either. Sheesh!
Ayayay! Kuya Germs' Walang Tulugan Direction is no direction at all. One camera shot in a sing and dance sequence? Holy guacamoli! And the decor looks so 1950-ish! What the heck are those hanging stuff doing there? It looked awful! I dare say the likes of Gosiengfiao and Perez did a lot better in the choice of production design and decorations.
ANG ULIRAN... IMELDA was actually changed by the Censors to ANG ULIRAN. Imelda Marcos didn't like the title using her name and therefore it was deleted.
Sajid Khan also came to RP to do movies with Nora Aunor, and most of them were sing and dance, directed by Artemio Marquez. When I saw MOTHER INDIA (where Sajid was only 4 years old), I was astounded to realize how talented this actor is. I even kept a DVD of this film for this reason. I think it's one of the most moving performances of a child actor ever filmed.
