The start of the 1970s saw the advent of the so-called bomba movies, a softcore sex films that were approved by the censors and were later shown with the censored parts restored or with additional, more daring uncensored footage (they called it 'singit'). There was a frenzy to produce cheap bomba films and numerous fly-by-night movie companies cashed in on this trend. What to make fast money! A random look at the list of these bomba movies would give one an idea of how low the industry had gone that time: Uhaw, Haliparot, Hayok, Laman sa Laman, Busog in 1971: Luray, Hidhid, Ectasy in 1971. These were only part or slice of a long list of titles produced, that flooded the market during that period. Merle Fernandez, Rosanna Marquez, Yvonne, Alona Alegre, Rizza and Rosanna Ortiz were some of the stars that ruled and reigned during that era.

I was in high school when these bomba movies flooded the movie theaters in the late 60s and early 70s. In Del Monte theater in Frisco, laging puno pag dating na ng gabi because of the "singit" na mga ginunting sa Board of Censors. Nung umpisa, after the movie shown, merong ipinapakita sa bandang huli, babaeng hubad na nakahiga habang merong nakatakip na mahabang-mahabang tela na hinihila, tapos mga ilang minuto lang the end na. Later on, nung magtagal-tagal na, mga x-rated na scenes from censored films na ang ipinapalabas hanggang maging grabe na talaga. Yung sineng yun, bukod sa masurot na, mabaho pa, pero laging umaapaw ang mga nanonood! (Yan ang mga experience ko nung bata pa ako sa Del Monte Theater, ha!ha!ha!)
